not all of them are without hope!

Don't just move the problem elsewhere

In response to the letter from Mr Harold Nicholls (town votes to end anarchic behaviour) in your issue of November 30, I would like to make three points:
Firstly, It would appear that we, the residents of Llandrindod, are very quick to condemn the anti-social behaviour of the people who are causing the problems in Temple and Memorial Gardens, but we are not quite as quick to recognise that they are vulnerable people with complex problems who need our compassion, help and support.

Secondly, I am not clear how giving the police extra powers to harass and, at the extreme, criminalise these people, which is what the Designated Public Places Order will do, actually addresses the cause of the problem rather than its consequences.

I firmly believe that this will make it much more difficult for the support agencies to engage with the drinkers in order to allow them to access help to address their needs.

Finally, Harold Nicholls is wrong to allege that I am in favour of the anti-social behaviour continuing.

I want the anti-social behaviour to cease completely rather than simply move it to other parts of the town.

In my view, the imposition of a DPPO will not stop people congregating in Temple Gardens, rather it is likely to exacerbate the very problem that we all want to see solved.

Cllr David Peter
County Councillor for
Llandrindod South

This is the letter appearing in this weeks county times.
Cllr Peters is the only town council member to consistently and publicy oppose the drinking ban by offering his opinion that there are social problems that create this situation and to move the 'drinkers' from one place to another will not stop anti social behaviour or cure alcoholism.
well done Cllr Peters.

Huge support for drink ban

« Previous « PreviousNext » Next »
THERE is overwhelming support in Llandrindod Wells for a drinking ban to be introduced in public areas of the town.
Mayor Derek Law says he does not want to prevent young people from sitting in park areas such as Temple and the Memorial Gardens enjoying the sunshine with their friends, but he does want to rid the town of the often “dubious behaviour” reported of people consuming alcohol in public.

More than 300 people are believed to have contacted Powys County Council (PCC) in support of such a ban.

After such a huge responsefrom the public it is hoped a designated public places order can be brought in by spring 2008.

A draft report recommending that such an order be created is scheduled to go before the PCC Board shortly for a final decision.

Cllr Law said: “A lot of young people in the town have no jobs, so with no cash and no motivation the situation is exasperated.”

Cllr Keith Tampin said: “I know we have got to help these people that drink on the streets but the organisations and facilities are here in the town to help them, such as Powys Drugs and Alcohol Centre and Alcoholics Anonymous, but a lot of them don’t seem to want help.”

Cllr Jean Christopher said her concern was where would the drinkers go if such a ban was imposed.

“If we move them from the village green and the town hall area, where are they going to go?

“Are they going to be a problem some where else in the town?”

This is the report of the town councils joy at their response to the mailshot.why are they overjoyed at less then 10% of the town supporting their proposed ban!
the actual numbers that replied was 245,with 241 in support of a ban,4 opposed on concerns about a lack of freedom to choose.
you will notice the quote from cllr Tampin which states he knows these people need help but they dont want to seem to do that, well Keith my old cockney sparrow, people who are in a grip of addiction the hardest part is to admit to a problem, its hard to get off the destructive spiral.
I know two members of the crew who have really worked hard this year to sort themselves out,yes they have fallen off the wagon a couple of times due to bad influences mainly so called friends but their overall improvement is a joy to behold. In fact the lady involved is blossoming.
they had the strength of character to do it themselves others dont find it as easy.
As cllr christopher says 'where are they going to go'
imposing a ban on certain areas will not cure alcoholism and it will not adress anti social behaviour in the town.
what about the yobs who drink in the pubs at the weekend and on exiting often cause mayhem, why dont they get picked on by the town council.
oh yes they are spending a couple of quid on a pint so that is different of course.
I wonder if the Metropole beer garden has a license to drink in, perhaps after the ban is in place the last members of the brew crew could perhaps congregate there instead.Or perhaps maybe at the 'crown jewel' of Llandrindod, the lake.

persecution continues

the town council held a private meeting recently to try and establish a by law to ban drinking in certain areas of the town.
they consulted with various agencies including the police and powys drink and drug agency.
there is some oppositon to a by law from powys county council, which is areal suprise, they probably know it will cost money to impose.
the residentsof llandrindod have been mail shot to add their support to anti social behaviour by contacting an email address or writing to an address, however it seems the only anti social behaviour they want to get rid of is the hardcore alcoholics in the parks but not the anti social behaviour of the people running riot on weekend night.
this is persecution of people who have an illness.
heres the address below where they have asked residents to support.
email them please but let them know it is all anti social behaviour that needs adressing and not the persecution of people with an illness.

Heres aprint of the reactions to our letter to the Brecon and Radnor newspaper.
they include a reply from dr venter and his wife,ah bless they seemed to be hurt by our criticisms, still their £80,000 pound a year NHS contract must soften the blow of all the hard work they do for the community. And their desperate to hold on to all their money and not help the most disadvantaged in our town,I suppose being afrikaaners they are well used to two tier structures within society and picking on the weakest!
there is also a letter from a hotel worker defending his friends the economic migrants and his claims of the bad behaviour of the brew crew.We all know that they can be anti social but they are alcholics and need help.He should watch his back because it wont be long untill that hotel finds an excuse to get rid of him and find someone from central europe to take his place

Llandrindods guantanamo bay

heres the pictures of the holding site where the authorities could hold the 'Undesireables'.
it could easily become llandrindods 'guantanamo bay'

this lot has been like this for two years, it could have served the town better as a place for the Metropole overspill! but it has just laid to waste as it is waiting 'development'.
we have the feeling the middle class elite have other plans for it and the 'brew crew'.

Today we are highlighting some of the global misdemeaneers of companies that have hit the headlines!

Thomas cook has ordered its customer service reps in their shops in wales to stop communicating in welsh! this is insensitive and ignorant of a culture that is striving to survive. you can read the story here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6739935.stm.

here is a piece about clothes label burberry and the way they treat their staff in their china factory which is more economical for them than there former factory in Treorchy, south wales
read it in full here http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2007/06/11/shame-of-burberry-89520-19276939/
the only way to stop these gross infringes of liberty and culture is to boycott the products provided by these companies

the red car parked on the right hand side of the road belongs to the Hotel Metropoles manager Mr Robert Hughes,it is parked outside the elderly day centre and adjacent to the county library.

In his wisdom mr Hughes parks his car on the hotel car park overnight when it is empty but during the day he vacates that area to allow delegates cars into the hotel car park and impedes the local community by parking in the street opposite!

this is obnoxious and selfish!

you can tell mr Hughes what you think of his selfishness by ringing him at the hotel on

here's justins little family!
not much of an example for rosie and kit{stupid name for akid, perhaps thats what he meant, kid instead of kit] is it justin?
perhaps they are the next generation of the brew crew!
i suppose if they succumb to alcohol or something stronger you will expect the tax payer to pick up the bill,eh justin.

Friday 8 June 2007

a systematic way of solving the parking problem would be to alleviate the number of delegates coming to llandrindod!

a lot of big organisations such as nhs use the metropole and its worth alerting them ofthe problems there delegates cause!

although details are hard to find before events!

once events are known messages of cancellations can be sent to cause confusion

name and shame

heres the adresses and phone numbers of those who have shamed Llandrindod with their insensitivity to local people who need proper healthcare!

Venter J H Times Building/South CrLlandrindod Wells LD1 5DH Telephone: 01597 822611
Dr Ventner imaginatively coined the phrase 'brew crew',how splendid, he was worried how these people who congregate below his surgery might affect his business despite only living in Llandrindod since 1999!he has done very well though with a dental practice and a restaurant in the town a large house on a smart street, several cars including a gas guzzler and his wife bedecks herself in what appearsto be half of south africa's gold reserve, mmm classy!
but some how dr ventner has forgotten he is a healthcare professional and sees these offending people as a blott on the landscape.
Mr justin Baird-Murray who supports a drinking ban in certain areas of llandrindod but presumably not in his hotel,Baird-Murray is the managing director of the Hotel metropole who only employ economic migrants in non management roles despite llandrindod having a unemployment figure of 4%, he also discriminates against people who need specialist treatment by trying to fine them for drinkingin public!
it must be a terrible eyesore for justin at the end of a working day to drive home to his country pile in his top of the range BMW and witness these dregs'
the hotel metropoles spencer bar charges £3 for a pint of flat ale, a can of special brew costs just 89 pence you work it out.
to tell justin where he can stick his offensive commments on addicts you can call him on 01597 823700 or email justin@metropole.co.uk

Here is the oily creep enjoying his 'cheap; champagne lifestyle.hypocrit!

LLandrindod town council

Llandrindod town council have discussed measures to be taken about a group of people who congregate in the temple gardens area of llandrindod!
some of these people are alcohol addicts and need treatment but the town council reacting to comments from local businessmen, Dr Herman Ventner a nhs dentist and Justin Baird-Murray managing director of the Hotel Metropole are trying to bring in measures such as a public places drinking ban and on the spot fines for those caught drinking in such zones.
Most of these people who drink inthese areas are reliant on stae benefits,so what would be the point in fining them!
THEY NEED SPECIFIC TREATMENT NOT PUNISHMENT!
WHY DO LLANDRINDOD COUNCIL ONLY CATER TO THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND TOURISTS!
what about the locals that need help
Llandrindod town council is more interested in economics than humanity

heres the address of one of the town councillors who tried to implement such an unaccommadating act to people who are ill! why not call her and tell her what you think of her policies!

Llandrindod wells has an unemployment figure at near 4%,that is above national average, over the last ten years major employerswith the town mostly factories have succumbed to the global market and have either closed or laid off large amounts of staff. Two of these factories were established in the town for over twenty years and have now closed.theremainding large factory employer has recently laid off a quarter of its staff, some of these were natural wastage such as voluntary redundancy.
that leaves two small supermarkets and the hotel metropole as the only providers of 'unskilled' work available.Somerfield has a good mix of workersi.e. women, young people, locals.Aldi who arrived after the demise of Kwik save only employ around twenty which is dissapointing. The hotel Metropole has a staff of around 90!apart from around 8 the remainder are short term economic migrants!
nothing wrong with that! its not their fault!
but there must be a reason why The Metropole dont employ locals!
Must be the way they treat their staff!
Llandrindod job centre is full of young people who could be employed at the Metropole!
sp why arent they.
Because economics are more important than the local community to the Metropole!

No Metropole overspill

Despite efforts to help alleviate the parking problems within Llandrindod Wells on busy conference days at the Hotel metropole by introducing some new double yellow lines ,although the council are yet to paint them,as well as making some members of the town council aware of the problems, they still persist!
We have targeted some delegates cars by posting a flyer and trying to persuade them that llandrindod has inadequate parking facilities to hold such events.
The Hotel Metropole has expanded its business twice in the last three years, including one conference suite that was largely funded out of the regeneration programme chaired by the late managing director of the METROPOLE Mr David Baird-Murray!,however they have failed to expand their parking facilities or introduce any sustainability inititive to help with the parking problem.
The over parking affects the community tax funded town bus service!
it also disables a large area of road outside the county library!
The hotel management staff park their cars not on their car park but on the road outside the library!
enough is enough!
we need you help
